Fire Extinguisher Hydro test Specialist

 

Summary: Primarily responsible for the in-house inspection, testing, and recharging of fire extinguisher and suppression system cylinders in accordance with DOT and NFPA guidelines. This position also requires regular maintenance of facility grounds as well as the shop area itself. This position will require travel between our various branch office with a company vehicle 

ü  Perform low pressure hydro testing on extinguisher cylinders with rating of below 1000psi (

ü  Perform high pressure hydro testing on extinguisher cylinders with rating of above 1000psi

ü  Dry extinguisher cylinders after testing

ü  Inspect interior of cylinder before and after testing for corrosion or remaining moisture

ü  Prepare extinguisher for recharge

ü  per DOT 49CFR guidelines)

ü  (per DOT 49CFR guidelines)

ü  Record and keep track of cylinder serial numbers, size, test/service pressure, and customer

ü  Print and file test results on a daily basis

ü  Place tested extinguishers for re-use by extinguisher technicians, communicating with them

ü  Ensure fire extinguisher is prepped and ready for acceptance of dry chemical prior to

ü  Fill extinguisher with dry chemical to appropriate pressure

ü  Maintain service record of cylinder recharge

ü  Prepare extinguishers for testing, emptying chemical and disassembling valve

ü  Inspect dry chemical for moisture or contamination and prepare for reuse if suitable

ü  Inspect extinguisher cylinder for corrosion

ü  Replace mechanical parts and “O” rings in valve and re-assemble valve

ü  Perform maintenance on extinguisher in accordance with NFPA guidelines and/or

ü  Prepare extinguisher for recharge

ü  Recharge extinguisher upon completion of testing and re-assembly

ü  Communicate with extinguisher technicians regarding completed tests.

ü  Empty trash from trash bins

ü  Sweep and mop (when necessary) shop and facility floors

ü  Ensure that Shop area is clean and well organized

ü  Inspect facility grounds, both interior and exterior, and perform grounds maintenance as

ü  Clean facilities as needed

ü  Aid in receiving and recordkeeping of new extinguisher stock

ü  Aid in the performance of general vehicle cleaning and maintenance when needed

ü  Aid with inventory control when needed

ü  Perform general facility and grounds maintenance as directed by supervisor.

ü  Ensure that Hydrotest, CO2, and Clean Agent Recovery systems are serviced and manufacturer recommendations maintained properly     

ü  Offer excellent service to walk-in customers, selling extinguishers and service as needed

ü  Explain repair and service work to customers when needed

ü  Follow All AcVark’s Policies & Procedures

ü  Be on time, ready to work when scheduled, & complete all duties assigned my management

ü  Provide strong customer service, interacting with customers in a positive and professional manner at all times

 

 Knowledge, Education, Licensing, and Experience Requirements: 

ü  High School diploma or equivalent is preferred

ü  Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering would be a plus

ü  Previous experience in the fire safety, service a plus

ü  Must be able to attain extinguisher service license if required

ü  Must be able to attain certification for hydrotesting

 

 Skill and Ability Requirements:

ü  Clean driving record

ü  Customer oriented interpersonal skills

ü  Must possess average written and verbal communication skills

ü  Must possess strong organizational skills

ü  Must be able to exercise effective time management skills (prioritize, multi-tasking, and work

ü  Must be able to understand and interpret industry codes and standards.

ü  Must be familiar with NFPA and DOT guidelines as they pertain to extinguisher and cylinder

ü  Must maintain ability to meet DOT approval requirements without exclusions (with training)

ü  Must be able to safely and effectively use general hand tools and power tools

ü  Valid General driver's license with a good driving record

 

 Physical Requirements & Exposures:

ü  Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly

ü  Must be able to push and pull greater than 75 pounds as needed

ü  Must have good eye, hand foot coordination

ü  Constant (5-8 hrs./shift) walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling

ü  Frequently carrying objects, reaching, repetitive motion, hazard/chemical exposure,

ü  inspection and recharge (with training) crouching, exposure to temperature changes, and wet/moisture/humidity
